The Done Pile is Getting Bigger!!!

Hello Hello!

Here are a few more knit items I have been working on this week...

The other night my husband told me that he thought the Diva's feet were getting cold at night.  next thing you know, he was asking me to make some socks for her.  We all know what I think of knitting socks, so this was quite the request.  I did some searching and found a pattern that called for bulky yarn...SCORE!!!  I guess if there is one thing that can make socks more bearable, it is bulky yarn!!  So, in less than 24 hours, the Diva had some socks!!

She isn't sure if she likes them...they are a bit stiff, so they are kinda snug on her.  Perhaps I'll make her another pair in the next size up...we'll see.

(Don't mind the kitty paws in the photo...Louis wanted to try the socks on!!)

I'm still plugging away at Barbie's new wardrobe.  She needed a pair of shorts to go with her tunic.  I was originally going to make capris, but I got lazy and bound off at short length...not bad for 45 minutes of work, huh??

I think I'm going to make either another dress or a long coat next...we'll see!!

Finally, here is a project that I cannot wait to make!!!  A good friend loaned me her Barbie pattern book from the 80s, and on the back cover, I discovered this...
A HOCKEY UNIFORM!!!!

Is there anything more perfect for me to make the Diva's Ken doll?!?!  I just have to find the right colors to replicate the Flames' throwback jersey.  I have also been looking on Ebay for some skates for Ken.  Wish me luck!!!

(By the way, is anyone else wondering why barbie is wearing a sailor suit at the hockey arena??)

I'm off to cast on a hat for another Christmas gift.  It involves cables, which are not my thing, so we'll see how it turns out.  I figure if I can whip up a pair of socks in 24 hours, I should at least give cables a try!!

Oh yeah, one more thing.  I am now contributing articles to a Calgary blog called Kids in Cowtown.  Today they are featuring one of my projects...go on, check it out...you know you want to!!!!

Happy Crafting!

They're Done!

Bonjour!!!

Well, I can honestly that I made a pair of socks...and I never plan on making another pair!! I waited and waited for the promised feeling of accomplishment and it never came. Instead, I was thrilled to be done!!! The Diva loves them, and that’s all that matters, I am just praying that she doesn’t ask for another pair!!!

(Sorry for the awful photo!!  I wanted to take another one with my "real" camera, but the socks are currently in the wash!!)

In other knitting news, I have picked up her “Something for Spring” sweater and I am going to try to get it done for her birthday. When I decided to work on it again, I had only a few inches of the back done…now I am done the back and one of the front sides. Slowly but surely I will get it done. It is the easiest pattern ever, all knit in stockinette, but the yarn is swingy (perfect for wearing, but drives me nuts when knitting), and that seems to be slowing me down. What do I mean by “swingy”? It isn’t stiff like most of the acrylic I am used to knitting with. This sweater is made with CottonEase, and though I think it will drape beautifully when it is done, it just isn’t my favorite to work with. Oh well…it’s all about the end product. It should only take me a few more days to finish it, so I think I can manage to suck it up!!

I am also planning on starting a few more projects shortly. The Diva has requested a ladybug pillow, and I think I might make a bag for myself. I am still pondering if I should make something for the Western Showcase at Stampede…my problem? I have no clue what to make!! I have people tell me that my stuff is nice, but I’ll be honest, it is FAR from great. I have no intensions of winning anything if I do enter, but I also don’t want to embarrass myself at the same time. If anyone has any ideas for patterns, please let me know…I’m all ears on this one!!!

Well, I’m off to write a post for my family blog, and then to get a few rows done on the sweater. I have a gardening post to prepare for this blog as well, so stay tuned for that.

If I don’t post again before the weekend, have a wonderful Easter!!!

Cheers!

You're Making a Whaaaa???

Hey Everyone!

I titled this post with the response that I am expecting from my knitting buddies. You see, I am NOT a sock knitter! I am 100% convinced that you are born either a sock knitter or a sock appreciator. (I feel the same way about knit toys…of which I LOVE to knit…and I have several friends who would rather…gasp…knit socks instead!) I love hand knit socks...I just DO NOT knit them. Well, until yesterday. I have been mentioning that I thought I might try making the Diva a pair and I cast on yesterday afternoon…and I turned my very first heel last night! Okay, so the exclamation point was for the benefit of my sock knitting friends. I think it is cool that I am making these for her, but I am not getting the “high” that I was told I would get from my first pair.

So, this may be my first and last pair of socks that I make…we’ll see. I think the Diva’s response to the finished pair will determine if there are any more in my future. In the meantime, I’ll finish these up…they are a lilac color (though they look gray), and I think I am going to switch to a dusty rose color for the toe. The Diva requested pink and purple socks…I think she was looking for one purple and one pink sock…pink toes might be our compromise. If I do make her another pair, I’ll make pink with a purple toe…then she can go all Punky Brewster and mix and match them.

Once these are off the needles, I am going to be working on yet another WCOBBS blanket. A bunch of us have decided to enter the Western Showcase Charity Division, and we are doing a red and white striped Stampede inspired blanket. I am knitting stripe two of it, so hopefully I’ll have some photos to share soon.

Well, I’m off to work on my socks…and to look for a stitch pattern for my stripe of the blanket.

Cheers!
